According to US
National Library of Medicine website Platelet Rich Plasma PRP
is scientifically known as autologous blood with concentrations above baseline
levels containing at least seven growth factors. In other words, PRP is just
taking a portion of someone's blood separating it into two layers: one layer is
the platelet rich plasma that contains small colorless disk-shape cells (platelet)
and the red blood cells. Platelet rich plasma is a natural source of growth
factors that is used to promote soft tissue healing and is used today as a
solution to hair loss.
Platelet Rich Plasma was discovered in 1999 by different
companies, according to bones and joints expert, Dr. Joseph Aiello. Dr. Aiello
said, "oral surgeons and plastic surgeons were the first to get on board
with PRP." Oral and plastic surgeons used PRP when doing reconstructive
bone surgery and plastic surgery. The enhancement of the healing after surgery
was the motivation for the use of PRP.
At one point PRP was very expensive. Later doctors
started to use PRP to stabilize different joints. Athletes like Tiger Woods,
Hines Ward, the Pittsburg Steelers and Stanford football players would use PRP
to heal injuries quicker so they can get back to playing before choosing the
option of having surgery. The results of using PRP to heal and stabilize joints
turned out fantastic! In 2004 Menlo Medical clinic's, Dr.
Allan Mishra did a study of the use of PRP and found that 90 percent of healing
was at the six-month mark on injuries that were 20 months old.
Today PRP plays a significant role in hair loss
restoration. International
Hair Restoration Systems offers Platelet
Rich Plasma Therapy, an advanced hair restoration solution
for men and women. For this safe and comfortable procedure with little to no
downtime, the platelets are distributed directly into the hair follicle
stimulating growth.
The steps of the PRP process consist of transferring
stem cells to your hairline, crown or the top of your head to be used to help
promote hair growth and reverse hair loss. Blood is drawn and placed into a
machine with a rapidly rotating container, known as a centrifuge, that
separates the plasma that includes substantial growth factors from the blood.
It is then placed in the scalp. Platelet Rich Plasma is an outstanding
technology used to heal scar tissue and hair follicles, while also helping to
thicken the existing hair follicles that are weak from hair loss.
