5 Tips For Healthy Hair All Winter Long

It's that time of year again... When the air gets a little colder, and undoubtedly dry, and windy. This can create harsh conditions for your hair. It's best to take proper precautions in managing your moisture and texture now. Read on to discover some helpful hair tips.

Deep Condition
Hair takes a beating from the dry, cold air during winter. Combat damaging weather with a hair mask that will breathe life back into your cold, dead hair. You can create your own hair mask with coconut oil. Coconut oil is a great, natural product that can heal and repair damaged hair. Use a mask that will penetrate your hair strands and get to the root of the dryness.

Wrap it
Protecting your hair from exposure to the winter elements is key. Keep your hair protected from the harsh winter winds with a wool or silk scarf, or hair wrap. Not only will this simple accessory liven up any winter look, it will keep your hair from flying around and taking a beating from the cold. Silk is a soft enough material to help keep your hair’s frizziness at bay, while wool will keep your head warm and cozy.

Humidifiers are Friends
Since the winter air is dry, your hair can lack the necessary moisture to keep it healthy, especially if you’re running your heater.  Investing in a humidifier can be a game changer. Even in Florida, a humidifier can be winter hair’s saving grace because it will put much needed moisture back into the air that can help improve your hair’s quality.

Wash Less
Even though warm showers feel great in the winter months, keep your hair washing to a minimum. Your hair will dry out easily during the winter months and washing it will only dry it out even more. In addition, if you are someone who is used to washing your hair every day, make sure you thoroughly dry it before you leave the house. Wet hair is not only more susceptible to weather damage, but it increases your chances of contracting a cold since your body heat is leaving. Also opt for a dry shampoo, which will refresh your hair in between washes by absorbing oils and sweat.

Regular Trims
It’s important, especially during the wintertime, to keep up with your hair’s maintenance. Stay consistent and get regular trims every six to eight weeks. This will keep your hair healthy by helping to eliminate dead ends and keep your hair looking and feeling fresh.

Laser Hair Therapy

For so long laser technology has only existed in the world of science fiction, but today lasers have a variety of applications, including treating hair loss. Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a revolutionary, non-invasive alternative to many traditional hair restoration options and at IHRS we are recognized experts in the practice and administration of laser hair therapy.

How Laser Hair Therapy Works
Laser Hair Therapy uses low-level lasers to increase blood flow to the areas of the scalp around the hair follicles. This increased circulation promotes a healthy environment for hair growth, giving the patient thicker, fuller, and shinier hair.

Is Laser Hair Therapy Safe?
Yes. The specific type of lasers used for LLLT meet the international safety standards and the legislative specification for “non-significant risk” products, and is classified as a Class IIIA cosmetic laser.

What Are The Benefits of Laser Hair Therapy Treatment?
·         Laser treatments have shown to greatly help newly transplanted hair by increasing the healing process. In addition to that, here are some other benefits:

  •          Laser therapy may repair damage caused by chemical services
  •          85% of patients say it stops the progression of hair loss
  •          Increased hair strength
  •         May repair and improve hair shaft quality

How Quickly Can I See Results?
Some people have noticed improvement after just five or six treatments. While other clients have indicated that they have experienced hair growth after just 10-12 treatments. Laser Hair Therapy has also been shown to be especially effective when used in combination with a hair loss control program such as our own dhtSENSOR.

Tips to Recover Your Hair from Summer Damage

Summer time brings thoughts of warm nights, endless days at the beach, and a boast-worthy tan. But, not all is peachy-keen following a glorious summer, and that's damaged hair! With actions come some consequences and after several sandy trips to the beach and splashes in the pool, your hair may be suffering the dreadful consequences of too much sun. Luckily, being beach-goers ourselves, IHRS knows a thing a two about combating sun damaged hair. Therefore, we've gathered some tips to help you in your hair’s recovery. Let’s dive in, shall we?

1. Feel and Analyze Your Hair Strands
Start by running your fingers through your hair. There are three main areas you should check: the roots, the middle of the hair, and the ends. Not all hairs react the same way to sea water, chlorine, and wind. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to inspect your strands to prevent harsh damage.

2. Give It a Good Wash
It’s important that after the inspection you give your hair a good wash. It's recommended to wash with shampoo every other day (depending on your hair type) to remove any chemical build-up from the pool's chlorine, or salt water. Remember to condition after!

3. Noooourish
After a thorough wash, it's time to nourish your precious locks. Summer damaged hair isn’t going to repair itself, so it needs your help to overcome the harsh elements. Put a hair mask on and rock it! Lather on your hair mask when you first step into the shower, leave it on for a few minutes allowing the mask to penetrate the hair, and rinse. Another great option is coconut oil or rosemary oil. They’re both natural and nourishing!

4. Be Careful When Untangling
Post-shower is the best time to brush the hair and get rid of knots, right? WRONG! When the hair is wet, it is at its most fragile state and can lead to breakage of the strands. It's a good idea to spray the hair with a leave in conditioner and gently brush through the hair with a wide toothed comb.

5. Use a Protection Spray
Even after summer, we can't escape the sun's damaging UVA and UVB rays. Remember to use a thermal spray right after your shower before drying your hair. Opt for a spray that not only will protect your hair from hot styling tools like a blow dryer or a flat iron, but also from these rays.

6. Make That Appointment Regularly
Some hair damage is inevitable, and unavoidable even if you follow these preventative tips strictly. So, make an appointment with a professional. Never neglect split ends for too long....They only get worse! A fresh cut (or trim) will rejuvenate your ends and keep your hair healthy.

At IHRS we care about your hair and how good you feel about yourself. Laser Hair Therapy can help restore your unhealthy hair to healthy hair again. We hope these tips will help maintain optimum hair health and send you into the fall season looking and feeling “fallbulous”! :)
