5 Tips For Healthy Hair All Winter Long

It's that time of year again... When the air gets a little colder, and undoubtedly dry, and windy. This can create harsh conditions for your hair. It's best to take proper precautions in managing your moisture and texture now. Read on to discover some helpful hair tips.

Deep Condition
Hair takes a beating from the dry, cold air during winter. Combat damaging weather with a hair mask that will breathe life back into your cold, dead hair. You can create your own hair mask with coconut oil. Coconut oil is a great, natural product that can heal and repair damaged hair. Use a mask that will penetrate your hair strands and get to the root of the dryness.

Wrap it
Protecting your hair from exposure to the winter elements is key. Keep your hair protected from the harsh winter winds with a wool or silk scarf, or hair wrap. Not only will this simple accessory liven up any winter look, it will keep your hair from flying around and taking a beating from the cold. Silk is a soft enough material to help keep your hair’s frizziness at bay, while wool will keep your head warm and cozy.

Humidifiers are Friends
Since the winter air is dry, your hair can lack the necessary moisture to keep it healthy, especially if you’re running your heater.  Investing in a humidifier can be a game changer. Even in Florida, a humidifier can be winter hair’s saving grace because it will put much needed moisture back into the air that can help improve your hair’s quality.

Wash Less
Even though warm showers feel great in the winter months, keep your hair washing to a minimum. Your hair will dry out easily during the winter months and washing it will only dry it out even more. In addition, if you are someone who is used to washing your hair every day, make sure you thoroughly dry it before you leave the house. Wet hair is not only more susceptible to weather damage, but it increases your chances of contracting a cold since your body heat is leaving. Also opt for a dry shampoo, which will refresh your hair in between washes by absorbing oils and sweat.

Regular Trims
It’s important, especially during the wintertime, to keep up with your hair’s maintenance. Stay consistent and get regular trims every six to eight weeks. This will keep your hair healthy by helping to eliminate dead ends and keep your hair looking and feeling fresh.

Why Going Gray Can Be a Positive

Going gray may save you money.
Think about all those times you went to the salon to get your hair colored because you didn’t want to be seen with gray hair. All the money you could have saved just by going with your natural hair color and creating your own special look. All the money you can save by not continuously coloring your hair could be used towards something more fruitful. You could possibly save up the money you would have spent to color your hair to go on a vacation.
 It’s a powerful look.
Gray hair has always had a sense of power behind it. Just look at some of the celebrities that have gray hair in real life or in movies. Anderson Cooper of CNN proudly shows off his gray hair while working and doing interviews. Anderson Cooper was even offered 1 million dollars to change his hair color, but he never changed it. Meryl Streep’s character in The Devil Wear’s Prada had gray hair and that may have helped her in her very believable role as a powerful fashion magazine editor.
It may keep your hair healthy.
Stopping yourself from going gray isn’t only costly in terms of money, but may actually be damaging to your hair. Putting certain types of chemicals in your hair may be bad for your hair’s long term health. Constant hair dying may lead your hair to becoming very brittle. This may lead to you having to spend even more money for other hair products.
