Karen’s Story

Even though young, there are an abundance of reasons why women in their 20s-40s are losing their hair. Among many factors, chemotherapy treatments have been known to cause hair loss. Patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments may experience mild thinning while others might experience complete hair loss. But why do these treatments cause hair loss? The drugs aim to seize the cancer cells that divide at an extremely high rate. Other cells in our body that divide rapidly, such as our hair follicle cells, are slowed as well because the drugs cannot tell the difference between the types of cells.

One might not ever think about how important their hair is to them until they are losing it. This was the case for our client, Karen, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 39. “I guess, sadly, one of the first thoughts after “am I going to die” was “what about my hair?” It is so shallow to say because the hair doesn’t matter, but especially being a woman, it does matter.” Karen battled her hair loss simply by doing something about it. She knew there were alternatives available. She took the first step: calling International Hair Restoration Systems and getting her free consultation.

“It was amazing and just having a full head of hair was incredible.  To be able to go out in any situation and realize that nobody is looking twice at my hair because it’s not thin- It’s a full head of hair!  It’s a wonderful thing!”

Vitamins and Nutrients for Optimum Hair Health

Making sure we are getting the right nutrients is just as important for our overall health as it is for the health of our hair. Maintaining the health of your hair doesn’t have to be hard. There are many vitamin-rich foods available that support healthy hair growth.

Biotin
Biotin is a B-complex vitamin that helps reduce hair thinning and grow healthier and stronger hair by increasing scalp circulation and rejuvenating hair follicles. Foods such as nuts, oats, root vegetables, and eggs are some of the best sources of Biotin.

Iron
Iron is an essential mineral that has several important roles in the body. Iron is responsible for helping to make red blood cells that carry oxygen around the body to all the cells, which is essential for healthy hair growth. Iron can be found in blackstrap molasses, green leafy vegetables, leeks, cashews, dried fruits, figs, and berries.

Vitamin C
Collagen surrounds hair strands but breaks down as we age making hair more vulnerable to breakage. Taking Vitamin C helps prevent breakage by increasing collagen production.

Fatty Acids
Getting enough essential fatty acids are important for cell growth, blood circulation, and supporting healthy hair follicles. Essential fatty acids such as Omega-3 also help add luster, sheen, and elasticity to your hair. Foods that contain essential fatty acids include walnuts, flax seeds, fish and avocados.

MSM
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) helps increase the production of keratin (a protein found in hair) and helps strengthen hair follicles. You can find MSM in leafy vegetables, such as Swiss chard, cabbage and watercress. Raw vegetables contain a higher amount than cooked vegetables.

If the health of your hair requires more than just adding a few vitamin-rich foods to your daily routine than International Hair Restoration Systems in Jacksonville, Florida is here to help. Call today to schedule your free private, confidential consolation, at (904) 425-5097.
