Alopecia Declassified

According to Medicaldictionary.com Alopecia, is commonly defined as hair loss, or baldness. There is no one cause for hair loss; sometimes it is hereditary, or it can be from the toxins in chemotherapy or your daily prescription medicine. Medical dictionary says the scalp can be visibly diseased and one could be diagnosed with alopecia just by looking.

The British Associate of Dermatologist provides a list of the different types of alopecia with the explanation and abbreviations:

· Alopecia Areata AA is a autoimmune condition, which produces patches.

· Alopecia Totalis AT is an aggressive AA that causes complete hair loss.

· Alopecia Universalis AU is severe causing total hair loss on the entire body.

· Alopecia Barbae is AA that causes patches on the beard area.

· Androgenetic Alopecia AGA is a hereditary gradual hair loss in men and women causing pattern baldness.

· Scarring Alopecia and Cicatricial Alopecia are rare disorders causing indefinite hair loss.

· Traction Alopecia is caused when hair is always pulled adding tension on the hair stopping new hair follicles from growing.

· Anagen Effluvium is due to the harsh toxins used to treat cancer, which cause patches or hair loss, according to Alopeciaonline.org, it typically takes six months for the hair to grow back.

Prescription Drugs & Hair Loss

Did you know when taking your usual prescription drugs, you're possibly contributing to your hair loss? According to the American Hair Loss Association©, your everyday medicine may contribute to temporary hair loss, pattern baldness and even permanent baldness.

AHLA© recommends:
  • Asking your doctor if hair loss is a side effect of your prescribed medicine. You should also do your research and read the manufacturer's warnings.
  • Asking the pharmacist to provide the side effects before filling a prescription.
  • Reading the guidebooks in pharmacies is an excellent approach to finding the side effects of prescription pills.
International Hair Restoration Systems of Jacksonville offers Laser Hair Therapy as a solution for men and women suffering from the effects of hair loss. IHRS uses soft and cold lasers to prevent cuts and burns while strengthening and stimulating hair follicles. The benefits of Laser Hair Therapy are the "non-significant risk," and results that may occur after 10-12 treatments. Let IHRS help restore your confidence and call 904-425-5097 or visit www.hair4me.com to book a free hair and scalp analysis.
