Can Smoking Cause Hair Loss?

Smoking cigarettes has long been associated with many health problems a person can have. While the list of health problems associated with smoking cigarettes is a very long one, here are some of the major health problems caused by smoking: respiratory disease, heart disease and lung cancer.

With that being said, can smoking cigarettes cause hair loss? Smoking cigarettes may speed up the hair loss process. If you have some sort of genetic pattern baldness and smoke, the hair loss that you experience may happen at a faster pace. The toxins from cigarettes may lead to malnutrition of your hair follicles causing them to die quicker and may cause you to lose your hair more quickly. Stopping smoking will not change your hair loss, but may slow down the process.

Smoking by itself cannot cause hair loss, but smoking can also lead to many different types of cancers that may need to be treated by undergoing chemotherapy. Certain forms of chemotherapy treatments may lead to hair loss.

So the answer to the question is no. Smoking cannot directly cause hair loss. However, if you do smoke you should talk to your doctor or a hair care physician at IHRS to better understand the effects of smoking on your health and your hair. Visit Hair4me.com for more information.
