Caring For Your Hair This Spring!

Spring Hair

While the spring provides new opportunities, it also brings new challenges for our hair. As you begin to enjoy the warm weather, remember that your hair needs just as much protection as your skin. Here are a few ways to help protect your hair this season.

Sun: One of the biggest challenges you’re hair will face this season is the sun. Fortunately, protecting your hair isn't quite so challenging. Wearing a wide brimmed hat or a headscarf is a simple and stylish way to protect your locks. Another simple solution is to style your hair into a simple up-do such as a bun or braids. An up-do will protect the bottom strands, which are the weakest parts of your hair, from sun damage. To help minimize the effects of the sun try using UV protecting shampoo, conditioner, and styling aids.

Moisture Balance: While it was important to keep your hair moisturized during the dry months of winter, the humidity from spring will alter your conditioning habits. Too much moisture will make your hair more prone to frizzing so if you deep conditioned your hair once a week during winter change it to every other week. If you used a heavy daily conditioner during winter swap it for a lighter moisture or balancing conditioner. Your hair will show you how much moisture it needs. If your hair has a lot of tangles, dry ends, or it feels rough to the touch, you're lacking moisture and need to add a deep conditioning to your hair regime. If your hair is limp or oily, cut back on the conditioning treatments.

Chlorine: One of the best things about spring is spending time at the pool, but the chlorine can have a damaging effect on your hair. Chlorine does more than cause green hair, it can also dry out your hair, causing damage to the bottom strands and leaving your hair looking dull and lacking luster. The easiest way to protect your hair from damage is to wash your hair thoroughly with a clarifying shampoo and balancing conditioner immediately after you leave the pool. However, if you still feel like the chlorine is building up in your hair many salons can do an in-salon treatment to help remove the excess chlorine.
