Common Reasons for Hair Loss in Women

Have you ever wondered why you are losing hair if your family doesn’t have a history of hair loss? Unfortunately, genetics are not always the culprit behind hair loss — so, what could be causing the loss? At IHRS we care about you and we are committed to finding not only the best treatment that perfectly suits your needs, but also the cause of your problem. The only way to accurately determine the reason for hair loss is by scheduling a FREE hair and scalp analysis at IHRS. In the mean time, we've comprised a list of the causes of hair loss.

Six Factors That May Cause Hair Loss:
Heredity (Family History)
Hormones
Telogen Effluvium
Medical Conditions
Medications
Unbalanced Diet

Heredity (Family History)
This is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women that leads to male or female-pattern baldness. Genetics dictates at which age most hair loss starts, its rate and the extent of hair loss. Loss can start as early as puberty. The path in which baldness is likely to follow can be determined by a pattern of hair loss. See the chart below for details.

Hormones
Hormone levels vary when a woman is pregnant, right after giving birth and during menopause. Hormone variations play a major role in the likelihood of hair loss for women because of their influence in hair growth regulation. Another factor may stem from thyroid malfunction, known as Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism means you have an underactive thyroid gland that produces fewer hormones then it should, ultimately affecting the hair growth cycle.

Telogen Effluvium
This is a phenomenon that happens after traumatic experiences both physically and mentally, such as major surgeries, extreme stress or drastic weight loss. Every person has a 3-phase hair growth cycle, being the growth phase, the rest phase and the shedding phase. When someone goes through a traumatic event, the hair cycle deregulates and pushes more hair into the shedding phase, causing hair loss. This case is noticeable three to six months after the stressful event.

Medical Conditions
Alopecia areata is a type of nonscarring hair loss that happens when the body’s immune system attacks hair follicles causing hair loss. Other medical conditions can be scalp infections such as ringworm, skin disorders that cause scarring alopecia, some types of lupus, sarcoidosis, lichen planus, and hair pulling disorder, also known as trichotillomania, where the person has an irresistible urge to pull hair either from the scalp, eyebrows or other areas.

Medications
Hair loss can be caused by medications or treatments. Some drugs used to treat arthritis, heart problems, depression, high blood pressure, birth control, and drugs used in chemotherapy can all cause hair loss.

Unbalanced Diet
Lastly, eating an unbalanced diet can be one of the causes as well. The exaggerated intake of some foods or vitamins, like vitamin A or the lack of consumption of protein, for example, can be triggering hair loss. It is extremely important to have a balanced diet for the proper function of your body and if you don’t know exactly what is good for and required by your body, do not hesitate in seeing a doctor that can give you some advice.

These are just a few of the known factors to cause hair loss in women. We recommend scheduling a free hair and scalp analysis with a hair loss expert at IHRS to accurately determine the reason for loss and the proper hair restoration option for you. Hair4Me.com

NeoGraft™ Hair Transplantation at IHRS

International Hair Restoration Systems is proud to offer Surgical Hair Restoration as a permanent solution for men with thinning hair. With more than 30 years of experience, IHRS has the best professionals in the field to perform Surgical Hair Transplantation.

At IHRS our approach to hair transplantation for each client is different. We begin by offering a FREE evaluation to accurately determine if you are eligible to undergo the procedure and/or if surgical hair transplantation is the best route for optimum results. Once our hair loss expert determines that you are a candidate for hair transplantation, we customize the procedure based on your age, hair type, health, the degree of hair loss and overall expectations.

During the transplant procedure, the doctor removes hair from the "donor area" of the patient’s head and transplants them into the area of the scalp with loss. The "donor area" consists of hairs genetically pre-determined not to fall out, making them the ideal candidates for transplantation! IHRS's NeoGraft™ Procedure can move four to six times as much hair as the standard approach, using follicular unit grafts throughout, producing a completely natural result. Learn more by visiting Hair4Me.com.

Take the first step by scheduling your FREE hair and scalp analysis to find out if you're a candidate for Surgical Hair Transplantation or one of our other professional hair restoration options! Hair4Me.com

ReAllusions Hair Replacement for Women at IHRS!

REALLUSIONS® HAIR REPLACEMENT FOR WOMEN is the solution to women suffering from thinning hair and hair loss. It is a non-surgical hair replacement technology designed specifically for women that offers a permanent solution to thinning hair.

ReAllusions has proven extremely effective in the treatment of inherited hair loss as well as hair loss due to accidents, systemic disorder, or medical treatments such as chemotherapy. ReAllusions is virtually undetectable and offers a natural appearing front hairline while adding density to the hair.

Now, you must be wondering what exactly this incredible treatment does? Well, ReAllusions uses a new and improved non-invasive skin like membrane implanted to your scalp's own layers of skin. ReAllusions is seamless between your own growing hair and the hair that has been reconstructed and is undetectable to both touch and sight.

Unlike conventional surgical hair restoration, ReAllusions does not require a “donor” area because it is not a surgical procedure and does not use chemicals. The ReAllusions hair system can also be used to provide additional hair to those who have already undergone hair replacement surgery but are still looking for more fullness and density. However, not everyone who suffers from female hair loss is a viable candidate. Possible candidates can only be determined by a free 30-minute evaluation performed at IHRS.

If you have female pattern baldness, alopecia or suffer from burns and scars, then ReAllusions' ability to replace hair in any area of the scalp, and create a totally natural hairline makes the perfect solution to your hair loss.

Men’s Hair Loss

Over 50 million men suffer from the devastating effects of hair loss in the U.S. alone. While factors such as stress, medications, poor diet, and even lack of sleep can cause men to lose their hair, the largest influence is genetics.

Androgenetic Alopecia, more commonly known as Male Pattern Baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Male pattern baldness is usually caused by increased sensitivity to male sex hormones in certain parts of the scalp and is passed from one family member to the next. This means you inherited hair follicles that suffer from dihydrotestosterone or DHT for short, these hair follicles shrink until the follicles stop producing hair.

According to the American Hair Loss Association, male pattern baldness is responsible for approximately 95% of men’s hair loss. About 25% of men who suffer from male pattern baldness will start to experience hair loss before they reach the age of 21. Nearly two-thirds of American men will experience some form of visible hair loss by the age of 35 and by the age of 50 approximately 85% of men have significantly thinning hair. See the diagram below.

Male pattern baldness is identified by the pattern of hair loss. The typical pattern of male baldness begins at the hairline, and gradually recedes until forming an "M" shape. Eventually the hair becomes finer, shorter, and thinner, creating a u-shaped ring of hair that wraps around the back of the head.

While male pattern baldness is usually diagnosed based on appearance, your hair loss could be caused by many other reasons.
